Intro
Since face masks are an easier step in skincare routines, they have captivated us with their simplicity and efficiency. And why not? We can use them whenever we want ‘that moment of relaxation’, as they are also diverse and accessible. How do we apply face masks correctly and enhance their effect?
Although they are fun to use, we still want results. But how? The condition of your skin will determine what key ingredients you can apply to your daily masks. In the meantime, keep in mind some ingredients won’t work, as they may even worsen skin conditions, and their ethics don’t inspire us.
But will it work? I like to offer positive answers, just like in this case.
Here are some tips to improve your cosmetics masks effects.
How often do we use certain types of masks?
Some face masks are applied more often, others locally, and some less frequently. Regardless of your mask type choices, the most suitable ingredients are those that nourish and moisturize all skin types.
It is recommended to apply a mask 2 to 3 times a week according to its type. A few exceptions are masks used less frequently, such as exfoliants, anti-aging remedies, or other treatments using powerful ingredients recommended by dermatologists. Still, what about the ones used most often? You can go with a ‘sheet mask’, gel, or cream face mask, with ingredients to which your skin has always reacted positively.
For sensitive skin or prone to other skin conditions, the ingredients list is even more important than in other situations. Here, face masks are applied weekly or monthly, so the skin can renew itself.
What helps you maximize your results?
Of course, we want a magic formula that meets our goals, to achieve a smooth and radiant skin complexion. Your skin may already be familiar with those ingredients that are always helpful. But do you feel that there are other tricks you missed?
Here are some of these tips gathered, learned, and also recommended by specialists to apply face masks correctly.
Cleanse before & Moisture after
The best way to prepare our skin for a mask is to cleanse it with something gentle and then apply a mask of our choosing.
If we use a mask and our skin is still dehydrated after removing it, we can apply a moisturizing serum afterward followed by a buttery cream or gel-cream.
The right time for the right mask
In general, masks can be removed with water after 10-20 minutes, but it is always a good idea to read the instructions.
If a mask dries the skin quickly, it can only be used for five minutes. Especially for sensitive, dry skin types.
In the case of reusable masks, with 10-15 wears, like those made of 100% medical silicone, just remove the foil and then apply it on clean and dry skin. If 4-8 hours have passed you can remove and sanitize the items.
Add something extra
If you’re using fiber masks made of cotton, paper, bio-cellulose, hydrogel (sheet masks), or even gel masks, you can apply a toner between rinsing and applying the mask.
Don’t say no to a serum, essence, or ampoule at the end of a face mask that doesn’t require rinsing.
Try Multi-Masking
You can try multi-masking if you are a fan of face masks and have a decent selection at home, and your skin allows it.
It requires you to know and understand holistically the needs of your skin type and skin conditions. This technique can be applied to various areas, such as dry skin and oily T-zone. Or in the case of other skin conditions, just as a local treatment.
